You get married.  You buy a beautiful, expensive dress.  You wear it for 6 hours .  You put it in a box.  There it sits.  For ever and ever……OR…………..

You do something AWESOME with it, and turn it into a charming Christening gown!!!!!

photo 1 (2)A good friend of mine, Stephanie, came up with this brilliant idea!!!!  She allowed me the opportunity to use her wedding dress and transform it into her daughter’s Christening gown.  Her dress was very simple, but the top had very elegant folding on it.  I wanted to incorporate this intricate aspect  into the gown.  Mom wanted to keep the dress simple as well. Using the M4865 McCall’s pattern I purchased at Joann Fabrics, I adapted dress A to fit Mom’s vision of the gown.

I kept the general shape of the dress in the pattern, but I redesigned the belt to mimic the folding that was on Mom’s Dress.   Super simple, and extremely elegant.

I used the train on Mom’s dress to make the back of the Christening gown.  Mom’s train had buttons down the back.

I was so much fun transforming my friend’s dress into something that was SO special to her and her family!

Here is another dress I made, from another friend’s dress.  The train was used for the front of the gown.
